Derek Hayden was the toast of the clubhouse at Royston Golf Club on Sunday, when he was the only player to break par in the Men’s Monthly Medal. Eighteen handicapper Hayden won by three shots from John Ellis. Keith Taylor, John Collins and Barrie Parsons tied for third spot finishing with nett 72.
Peter Rutter won Division One with a gross 74 nett 72, which also gave him the best scratch prize and entry into the Medal Winners Final in October. Mick Merry, Paul Hayden and Keith Pitts all shot 72.
The Ladies were in action last week and Jane Millership won the Ladies Medal on Thursday ahead of Sandra Williams, Pam Bonnett, Carolyn Devaney and Val Squires.
On Saturday Wendy Thomas was the clear winner finishing seven shots ahead of her nearest rivals, Judith Osler and Sue Bidwell.
Twenty six players turned out on Wednesday morning for the Midweek Golfers stableford which was won by William Steel in testing conditions. His 34 points gave him a two point cushion over John Murray, Derek Hayden and Jim Hopkins.
Club Captain, Sid Seward led his Spurs supporters team to victory over arch rivals, Arsenal in the annual golf match on Saturday. With twelve matches of fourball betterball stableford, it was left to the last group to decide the outcome. Trailing by eight points, the Spurs pairing of Ben Bennett and Stewart Hart recorded an impressive 40 points to edge ahead of Gary Noble’s Arsenal team.
