Pulsatillas’ and Mid-Week Golfers’ Quarterly Report
Despite the horrendous weather conditions from January to early March the three stableford and the medal competitions were successfully completed. These were played from the white tees for the first time. The winter fourball and foursomes knockouts were running very late due to all sorts of reasons but mostly the weather but at time of writing Johns Murray and Fyson reign supreme in the foursomes. Keith Taylor had a hole-in-one at the 16th. during his quarter final fourball match. The semi-finalists for the fourball knockout have been established and hopefully the competition can be completed within the next couple of weeks.
March saw the beginning of the match season, kicking off with a home tie against Mentmore. Unfortunately they were too good for us on the day, beating us 5 matches to 1! We had a better result in the friendly against the Springers, with a narrow win, 7 matches to 1. The match against Cambridge Meridian was much closer with Royston coming out on top by 3 ˝ to 2 ˝ . Both sides had a player who scored a hole-in-one, Brenda at the 16th and Philip Vince at the 6th. Beadlow Manor was the first of two matches during the last week in March with Royston winning again, 6 matches to 2. Unfortunately we were far too generous with the ladies, four extra strokes plus a bisque was enough to see them home 5 matches to 2.
The annual dinner was its usual success with all members enjoying themselves. A little cheating during the quiz only added to the enjoyment, although some of the questions were quite difficult. Whoever heard of a smack of jelly fish?
