Weekly news round-up February 26th

February 25, 2018

The ladies put golf to one side on Tuesday when they hosted a Coffee Morning at the club jointly in aid of Alzheimer’s Research and the Ladies Section. It was very well supported by members and friends and raised around £ 350.
On Thursday the ladies played a unique 12 hole team game – called ‘Crazy’ golf, involving a set of instructions for each hole. A tennis ball and a blindfold were additional features of the game. The winning team of J Buckerfield, C Devaney and K McKellen overcame both the challenging conditions and unusual format, with H Steverson and J Millership in second place.
Members were undeterred by a week that brought us north easterly winds and freezing conditions, although there were some very surprising shots and scores on a course that was often completely frozen. On Wednesday, the men’s midweek winner was P Law with 36 points. Thursday’s Roll up winner was R McShane with 41 points, 3 points clear of T Deards. The Friday Winter League was won this week by J Hopkins, although R Sammons remains narrowly ahead on the leaderboard. N Plumb came in first in the Saturday swindle, with 36 points. Sundays 4 Ball Better Ball was won by Barry Rouse and Ben Bennett, narrowly beating Stuart Hart and Mark Pearson into second place.
