Weekly news December 16th

The combination of excellent music from Royston Town Band, alongside the highly enthusiastic singing from Royston Golfers made for an Evening of Carols which was truly fabulous. On Friday 13th the Golf Club had a packed audience of nearly 100 members and friends celebrating Christmas with the Band. The Captains, Alan Greenback and Sandy Griffin dressed as elves, gave a zealous rendition of Good King Wenceslas as is now traditional on this occasion. It is one of the most popular Christmas events at the Golf Club and proved yet again to be a wonderfully successful night.

On the golfing front the Ladies braved the winds this week and on Tuesday held a 10 hole game, won by Jane Millership, before enjoying their Christmas Lunch. Then on Saturday they played a 4 Clubs and Putter game which Moya Allison won, just ahead of Wendy Hallums.Meanwhile on Wednesday the Seniors also celebrated their Christmas with a 4 Clubs and Putter game before 52 members sat down to enjoy their seasonal lunch. The competition of 38 golfers, was won by Arthur Brennan with 40 points, followed by Pete Gillies’ 37.Other results for the week were very limited due to the weather. In fact 2 players, Declan Shilton and Mial Walker, went out in the Thursday Roll Up and only 10 golfers played in the Friday Winter League, which was won by Julian Gilbert, ahead of John Galloway.

On Saturday, in more wet and windy conditions, the Swindle was won by Danny Van Der Westhuizen with a wonderful 39 points, followed by Jeff Hunt’s 38.

Finally the Juniors played their Christmas stableford in windy but dry conditions on Saturday afternoon. Congratulations to Alex and Oliver !
