Weekly News January 6th


The Christmas Holiday may have slowed the Royston Golfers down a touch but there has still been plenty of action on the Heath over the last two weeks. The Royston Course has remained open throughout this time, busy welcoming members, their families and people from the closed courses in our area. The varied conditions have caused complications for a few competitions, but overall the golfing programme has continued.
On Saturday 21st Dec, Lee Rogers won the Mens medal with a fabulous nett 65, over Pete Prentice’s 67. Then on the Sunday, in the 4 Ball BetterBall, Chin Thapa and his partner Sarbajit Jugjali came in first with 44 points, ahead of Chris Kivotos and Steve March’s 42.
On the 27th Dec, Jim Hopkins scored a winning 37 points to come first in the Friday Winter League, ahead of Pete Law with his 36. Then in the Saturday Swindle for 27th Dec, Lee Smith won with 42 points, ahead of Danny Van Der Westhuizen’s 41. The Sunday Stableford was won by James Mowatt with 45 points on count back from Adam McDonnell.
The New Year’s Day Texas Scramble was well supported with several 4 balls out enjoying the fresh air. Congratulations to the gross winners, Gary Fortune, Ben Geldart, Chin Thapa and Sabajit Jugjali and the nett winners, Sue and Dave Bidwell, Stuart Knight and Keith Taylor. During that week, the Roll Up on Thursday saw Mial Walker come in first with 38 points, ahead of Sid Seward’s 35. The Winter League winner for this Friday was Roger Craigen with 36 points, followed by Keith Cridland’s 32. Then at the weekend the Saturday Swindle was won by Jonathan Mowatt with 41 points, ahead of Simon Thompson’s 40 and the winner of the Sunday Medal was Steve Rogers with nett 66 on count back from Ryan Sharp and Pete Rutter.
