Weekly News June 10th10/06/2019
On Sunday afternoon the Juniors started their Golf Foundation Sixes Summer League with an away game at Kingsway, competing with 5 other teams from clubs in our local area. This was their first match out of 8 to be played between now and October.
Meanwhile the Men’s 36 hole Club Championship was held at Royston on Sunday . Stuart Phillips won overall with Sam Chipperfield runner up. The Handicap Cup was won by Paul Thomson with Lee Bonney runner up.
Earlier in the week the Seniors Summer League continued with Dave Rowell the winner on 40 points, over Jim Hopkins’ 38. After 3 weeks Dave remains top of the Leaderboard. On Wednesday the Midweek golfers played for the Tom Hyde Trophy which was won by Sam Wallace on 39 points, over John Humphreys’ 37. The Seniors also played an away match against Cambridge Meridian during the week which they lost 2 half to 4 half. In the Thursday Roll Up Stewart Hart won with 43 points over Trevor Deards’ 41.
Despite the torrential rain of Saturday morning, Jeff Hunt won the Swindle with 34 points over Arthur Brennan’s 33.
Fortunately, as the mixed teams went out for the Johnson Matthey Cup on Saturday afternoon, the weather improved considerably allowing Keith Taylor and Carolyn Devaney to win the Trophy with 32 points on count back from Lady Captain Kim Bradfield and Pete Dean.
Finally, the Sunday morning Stableford was won by Martin Shipley with 41 points on count back from Keith Cridland. f
