Weekly news June 17th

A terrible week of wet and windy weather for most ordinary golfers – however nothing could stop the Ladies playing for the Grannies Rose Bowl on Tuesday. In dreary, soggy conditions the eventual winner was Helen Steverson with a very creditable 31 points, ahead of last years winner Kiyoko McLellan. Some of the Ladies also continued to play during the week, despite the weather, as they had Knock Out games to complete. This included Helen, who again beat her opponent, and then went on to make it a trio of wins in one week, by coming first in the Buckerfield Trophy on Saturday . She finished with 33 points on count back from Kath Caunce.

Some of the men were also out in the rain this week. On Monday the Seniors had a game against Girton which they won 4 games to 2. The Scratch team have played twice, winning both matches – against Welwyn Garden City, 6 and half to 1 and half and Aldenham, 2 and half to half. They are now delighted to find themselves at the top of the League with only one more match to go. David Marsh won the Midweek Golfers Wednesday Trophy with 38 points, ahead of Bob Lee. Then out of the 6 Thursday Roll Up players who braved the elements, Mial Walker came in first with 37 points ahead of Stewart Hart’s 36.

Finally at the weekend the Saturday Medal was won by Steve Marsh on nett 65, followed by Chris Paxton’s 66 and the Sunday Competition was won by Colin Smith and his partner David Shaw with 44 points, ahead of Graham Toby and his partner Simon Thompson’s 42.
