Weekly news June 24th


The highlight for the Seniors this week was seeing a delighted John Galloway winning the Captain’s Putter, after scoring 38 points in a game for all the Past and Present Senior Captains. In second place was Club President Mike Thrower with 37 points. Unfortunately their Club matches didn’t finish so well, as they lost away against Millbrook, half to 5 and a half and also against the West Essex Seniors 1 – 3.The Midweek game on Wednesday was won by Walter McLellan with a wonderful 45 points, followed by Alan Saunders with 42 and the Thursday Roll Up Medal by Sid Seward with nett 67 on count back from Lee Rogers. The Ladies fared better as they continued their path to the Semi Finals in the Grace Norman County Competition. They beat Ely City 2 and a half to a half for their place, which will be held at Gog Magog GC. They also celebrated their first Friendly win this season, which was against The Cambridgeshire away on Thursday, 3 games to 1. However their away match at Girton in the Jean Wilkinson County Competition was much harder and the Royston Ladies narrowly lost. They now have two home return matches still to play in their bid to reach the Finals.The results for the weekend saw Mark Westwood winning the Saturday Swindle with 38 points on count back from Pete Tidey, then Lee Rogers. And finally congratulations to the Mens Annotata Team who were jubilant in winning their match against Enfield. They now go forward again into the next round.
