Weekly news June 3rd
06/06/2019On Tuesday this week the Three Counties Golf Captains competed
for the Herve Trophy. 48 players from Herts, Cambs and Essex enjoyed a full
day’s golf. The Herts Captains were delighted to retain the Trophy.
The Ladies were also hosting other Clubs this week as they played their
annual Triangular Match with Gog Magog and Letchworth Golf Club Ladies on
Thursday. This team event has been a long-standing fixture but had lapsed until
reinstated during the Ladies Centenary Year, back in 2007. It was Joan
Buckerfield, the Centenary Ladies Captain, who set the ball rolling again and
it has been a very popular match ever since. The ladies also played for the
Bogey Cup this week with Kathy Musgrave returning to form to win with -1, over
Jane Millership with -2.
Meanwhile in other regular games Dave Rowell came first in the Midweek
Stableford with 40 points, followed by Pete Law with 38 on count back from Ken
Griffin. In the Thursday Roll Up Trevor Sweeting won with 37 points over Sid
Seward’s 36 on count back from Declan Shilton and Alan Lakey. The Saturday
Swindle was won by Steve March with 42 points over Adam Mc Donnell’s 41. Then
in the Medal and Centenary Qualifier on Sunday Alan Lakey came in with nett 64
over Lee Bonney’s nett 68 on count back. The Seniors match against Nazing away
was lost 5 games to 1, with Peter Gillies and John Kelly the only pair to win.
Finally the Scratch teams have also been out this week. The Ladies played
at Home against Ely City on Sunday whilst the Mens team played last Monday
against Stevenage for the HG Team Cup. This was also at Home but they lost due
to the ‘away advantage’.
There are many more golfing events in the coming weeks but look out for
the Family Fun Day on Sunday 30th June. Bring the whole family to have a go at
the mini golfing competitions and activities. Or just come along to enjoy the
fun.
