Following the recent closure for snow, members then had to battle with gales as they returned to the course . Fortunately, the Spring like sunshine has returned and players were out in strength this weekend. In the men’s medal on Saturday, Phil Martin came in first with a nett 69 on count back from Simon Clark and in the Ladies Helen Steverson came in with a nett 75, ahead of Sue Bidwell on nett 76. Nick Scott and Keith Cridland recorded 42 points to win in the Sunday better ball competition, ahead of Mark Moule and Robin Coles on countback.
There was more fine scoring on Friday when Alan Saunders won with 40 points on count back from Dave Rowell. Mark Crowley also scored 40 points in the Thursday Roll Up ahead of Chris Kivotos on 37. Then in the Wednesday Midweek Competition Ray Boddy won with 37 points on count back from Alan Hootton.
The Ladies celebrated 14th February with a fun Valentine competition. There were chocolates and roses to be won on each hole and a “cupid” for the outright winners on the last. This year the Cupids went to Libby Toby and Steph Denton. In addition, the Ladies are delighted to note that Leila Sharafenko, one of their most recent, and new-to-golf members, scored 38 points in the Ladies Roll Up on Tuesday.
A few very intrepid golfers did brave the gales on the previous weekend. The results show that Martin Davidson came first in the Swindle with 36 points, ahead of Jason Williams with 33 and on Sunday, Jon-Jo Pitts scored 35 points beating Mark Moules 30. Finally, Sandra Williams came first in the Ladies Stableford with Kim Bradfield second.
