Weekly News Round up February 3rd

The last week of January was a non competition week for the Ladies of Royston Golf Club but there was plenty going on nevertheless.
On Sunday 26th there was the annual match against Cambridge University Golf Club. This is a fixture which has been in place for many years because of the link between the two Clubs. It was in 1869 that two University Students set out the Golf Course, which allows us to claim it is the oldest 18 hole Course in England. The Foursomes Match Play game, held at Royston, was eventually won by the strong Away side, The Stymies as they are known, 4 games to 3, after having suffered defeats in recent years.
On Wednesday, despite the bitterly cold weather, 33 Pulsatillas played in a 3 person Team game, which Robin Tinston, Bill Landels and Phil Vince won with 62 points. In second place on count back was Stuart Knight, Ian Gavine and Roger Craigen.
The Thursday Roll Up was won by Mial Walker this week with a wonderful 40 points, followed by Barry Buckerfield’s 37 on count back from Mick Joyner. The Winter League continued on Friday in its 14th week and Senior Captain Alan Hootton came first with an impressive 35 points, beating Stuart Knight into second place by just one point.
At the weekend the Saturday Swindle was won by Steve March with 35 points, followed by Des Wain’s 34 on count back from Graham Richardson and Ray Sammons.
Finally the Sunday Medal on the 1st of February, was won by Tom Woods with a nett 69, ahead of Tom McGuigan’s nett 71 on count back.
