Weekly News September 23rd23/09/2019
September has been a very successful month for the Ladies, not only did they win the Mary Cole Rose Bowl on the second day of the month, but went on, three days later, to win the Dorothy Johnson Trophy and the Bowen Cup. The Ladies hosted the Annual Competition this year and were able to convincingly regain both Trophies from the holders Saffron Walden. A special mention goes to Sandra Williams, winner of the Bowen Cup, for having the best nett score of the day, on count back from Helen Steverson. Over the weekend the Ladies held their Club Championships. Congratulations to Sarah Buckerfield winner with a total best gross score of 174, over two consecutive days. The Handicap winner for best nett score went to Sandy Griffin. The Bronze Trophy was won by Steph Denton with Carolyn Devaney collecting the Bronze Handicap prize. In addition last week, Steph Denton and Val Squires picked up the Autumn Greensomes Trophy after playing 36 holes at St Ives against 24 other pairs from around the County. And Steph was again successful winning the Ladies Vets Trophy on Tuesday with 33 points, from Helen Steverson’s 32. Finally for the Ladies we congratulate Leila Shafarenko for scoring a brilliant nett 68 in the Charity medal game last Saturday.
Needless to say the Gents have also been playing regularly. Over a recent weekend they played for the Viscount Hampden Bowl. Congratulations to Martin Davidson for winning with a nett 66 on count back from Ben Geldart. The Seniors Summer league continues and last Mondays game was won by Dave Rowell with 40 points, over George Hopkins’ 34. The Midweek Medal was won by Pete Law with a nett 67, over Vice Captain Alan Greenbank’s 71. Ben Bennett won the Thursday Roll Up Medal with a terrific nett 65, just beating Paul Toby’s 66. Finally the Saturday Swindle was won by Steve March with 39 points, over Jim Hart’s 38.
