On Saturday June 11th Royston Ladies’ Section held their annual Cream Tea Event which takes place on the day of the most prestigious competition in the diary – The Buckerfield Trophy.
This beautiful glass trophy was donated to the Ladies’ Section by the 1992 Ladies’ Captain – Joan Buckerfield, to celebrate the Club Centenary year.
On a gloriously sunny but blustery day it was Helen Steverson who won the Stableford competition convincingly with 35 points and was presented with the trophy by Joan Buckerfield.
After congratulating the winner, the Ladies were able to thoroughly enjoy the scones, clotted cream, jam and strawberries with their cup of tea or fizz!
Previously on the 8th June, four ladies from Royston played in the County Div 2 competition – the Audrey Nicole Cup.
It is always very challenging to enter these games which are played on different courses and with other golfers.
So we congratulate Moya Allison who took 3rd place overall in the above competition.
Finally on Sunday 26th June, the Royston Ladies’ Women In Golf Committee held an afternoon of ‘Fun Golf and Fizz’ for the Women’s Section, including our newest recruits, the Academy ’21 girls and some potential Academy ’22 ladies, in order to say a huge ‘thank you’ for the continued support and interest with developing the New To Golf ladies.
We were very fortunate to enjoy a lovely, sunny afternoon, playing and socialising together on the beautifully cut Par 3 and Putting Green areas with such stunning views of the Course as a backdrop.
Those who came along were encouraged to join in the team challenges around the Par 3 holes and on the Putting Green.
Club Captain Gary generously presented the prizes for the 3 Challenges.
Following the Prize giving, everyone enjoyed delicious homemade cakes and a glass of fizz, which was kindly donated by Royston Golf Club.
Again this year the Royston Ladies reached the Semi Finals of the Grace Norman Trophy which was held on the hottest day of the summer at Girton. They were beaten by the winning team from Heydon Grange.
However in September the Royston Ladies played in the Jean Wilkinson Trophy Finals held at Gog Magog and were delighted to win against Brampton.
Since the County Finals the Royston Ladies have been busy with their internal competitions, including: the Autumn Meeting which Moya Allison won, the match with the Seniors which was won by Kim Bradfield and Andy Forbes, the Ladies Versus Gents Match 2 which allowed the Ladies to retain the trophy for another year and the match of the year – The Bowen Cup. This popular, annual match against Saffron Walden, held alternately at each course, is the highlight at the end of the golfing season for all our lady golfers. And as you can see from the photos, not onl y was Tracey thrilled to be accepting the Dorothy Johnson Trophy, but the Saffron Walden Lady Captain was delighted too. In addition the Bowen Cup itself was awarded to Sandra Williams with the best nett score of the day. Congratulations to all!
